The Windows operating system is one of the leading systems in the technology world. Microsoft has made significant developments in its performance and there are a vast number of ways that the operating system can be used, including facilitating the use of cloud computing.

Microsoft has built different operating systems ranging from Windows NT to the latest Windows 10. Windows 10 IoT Core is an extension of the parent Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 was developed to be used on fairly big devices such as desktops, laptops and other related devices. However, Windows 10 IoT Core was specifically developed and tailored to be used on smaller devices such as mobile and tablets.

These devices may have display screens or may have no display screens at all. Windows 10 IoT Core was designed to run on the x86/x64 architecture and also on ARM architectures. What are the advantages of Windows 10 IoT Core? Because it uses the UWP (Universal Windows Platform) API, it makes it possible for a user to develop a custom application and use it on the given device.

Like its parent operating system, Windows 10 IoT Core comes with a variety of areas of application. It has become vital for many developers who design and build Windows applications. Depending on the needs of a given developer or user of the Windows 10 IoT Core operating system, there exist a wide range of applications that one can develop. The choice of application is driven by the available hardware, such as the Dragon board 410c and Intel Joule or the Raspberry Pie. Each of these devices has their respective applications.

The installation and use of Windows 10 IoT Core is determined by the kind of system that the operating system is to be installed onto. The hardware is categorized as either a headed system or a headless system, where a headed system contains a display and the headless does not. In a headed system, the system must have at least a hard disk space of 2 GB and a RAM of 256MBs. For the headless systems, the RAM should be 512MBs and a 2 GB hard disk space. In both systems, the processor should be at least 400MHZ.
