Demystifying the Real-time Applications of TCP/IP

TCP/IP is often considered the foundation of modern networking. As such, it is used as the main platform for development and implementation of networking applications. Over the years, thousands of new applications have been created alongside the TCP/IP internet growth. The new applications are designed to allow different tasks and functions like business implementations or global entertainment to be carried out effectively. For these reasons, listing every real-time application of TCP/IP would be impossible.


Nonetheless, among the numerous TCP/IP applications, there are a few that stand apart. Some of these key applications have been around longer than the Internet Protocol but they have been implemented as TCP/IP application protocols. They include:

1. TCP/IP Application in Layer Addressing

The internet is broad, and it relies on interconnected servers to execute commands. Each of the interconnected servers can provide useful information to users because they are part of a wide network. However, gathering useful information from a broad network can be hard; it requires a means to label each file or object. This is where TCP/IP comes in handy. It contains a system of uniform resource identifiers (URIs) that can be used on the internet and on private TCP/IP networks too. Every URI specifies how you can locate the information you want. The URIs are subdivided into URLs and URNs; they serve the same purpose.

2. TCP/IP Message and file Transfer Applications and Protocols (FTP, TFTP, USENET, HTTP)

Networking applications are designed for one purpose: to allow communication between networked devices. In technology, information is stored as discrete objects known as files. When the files are created for communication, they are known as messages. A basic real-time application of TCP/IP is one that enables the passing of files between internetworked devices. This is known as file and message transfer TCP/IP applications. For instance, FTP is a widely used application protocol that allows efficient file transfers between two TCP/IP internetworked devices.

3. TCP/IP Interactive and Remote Application Protocols

Another less well known real-time application of TCP/IP is its ability to allow interactive access and use of computers over internetworks like the pubic internet. Protocols used include the Telnet protocol, an important TCP/IP application protocol that is still widely used as a communication basis and access to remote devices.

Clearly, real-time application of TCP/IP is wide and essential for regular network operations. Because TCP/IP must be in use where internetworked platforms are in use, its real-time application is limitless.
